Japanese Language 「Verbs」 「Imperative Form」 「Part 2」 「Vimp + to iu・と言う」 Vimp to iu expresses an indirect command and is used by men. The passive form iwareru 言われる (be told) may be used by men and women. Examples: 店員にすぐ見本を遅れと言う。 Ten'in ni sugu mihon o okure to iu. I'll tell the clerk to send the sample right away. いつも先生に日本語で答えろ・答えよと言われます。 Itsumo sensei ni Nihongo de kotaero/kotaeyo to iwaremasu. I'm always told by my teacher to answer in Japanese. 部長に会議を延期せよ・延期しろと言われました。 Buchō ni kaigi o enki seyo/enki shiro to iwaremashita. I was told by the department head to postpone the meeting.
