Japanese Language 「Adjectives and Adverbs」 「Adverbs Expressing Time」 「Part 15」 「Tachimachi・たちまち」 "at once," "in no time," "suddenly" Tachimachi is used to indicate something happening quickly or abruptly. It is not used when the speaker's volition is involved. Examples: あのロックシンガーのコンサートの切符はたちまち売り切れた。 Ano rokku shingā no konsāto no kippu wa tachimachi urikireta. Tickets to that rock star's concert sold out in no time. その薬を飲むと、たちまち頭痛が治った。 Sono kusuri o nomu to, tachimachi zutsū ga naotta. When I took the medicine, my headache went away immediately. 黒い雲がたちまち空に広がった。 Kuroi kumo ga tachimachi sora ni hirogatta. Dark clouds suddenly spread across the sky.
