Japanese Language 「Verbs」 Vdic + Sō da そうだ "I hear that," "I heard that," "People say that" Vdic sō da expresses hearsay, what the speaker heard or information obtained indirectly. Examples: かれはオフィスを横浜に移すそうだ。 Kare wa ofisu o Yokohama ni utsusu sō da. I heard that he will move his office to Yokohama. ドアに警報機を付けるそうです。 Doa ni keihōki o tsukeru sō desu. I hear that they will put an alarm on the door. 山田さんは来週あたり退院するそうです。 Yamada-san wa raishū atari taiin suru sō desu. People say that Mr. Yamada will be released from hospital sometime next week.
