Japanese Language 「Adjectives and Adverbs」 「Part 10」 「Polite Forms」 Adjectives have polite forms. These include not only simple, polite expressions, but honorific and humble expressions as well. 「O-/Go-・お‐/ご-」 To make a polite expression The prefix o- or go- added to an adjective expresses politeness. Basically o- is used for Japanese-origin words and go- for Chinese-origin words. All i-adjectives are Japanese in origin, while most na-adjectives are Chinese in origin. Some Chinese-origin na-adjectives may take o- rather than go-. Examples: i-adjectives: お熱い・o-atsui (hot) お強い・o-tsuyoi (strong) Chinese-origin na-adjectives: ごていねいな・go-teneina (polite) ご親切な・go-shinetsuna (kind) Japanese-origin na-adjectives: お静かな・o-shizukana (quiet) お好きな・o-sukina (favorite) Na-adjectives that use o-: お上手な・o-jōzuna (skillful) お元気な・o-genkina (healthy) Hope this helps! じゃまたね! °˖ ✧◝(○ ヮ ○)◜✧˖ °こゆうきあいはら°˖ ✧◝(○ ヮ ○)◜✧˖ °
