Japanese Language 「Adjectives and Adverbs」 「Adj cond~hodo/dake~ば~ほど/だけ」 "the more~, the more~" The conditional form of an i- or a na-adjective (the ba form) plus the same adjective in the prenominal form, followed by hodo/dake, expresses a proportional relationship between two states or between a state and an action. Examples: 説明は詳しければ詳しいほど分かりやすいです。 Setsumei wa kuwashikereba kuwashii hodo wakari yasui desu. The more detailed the explanation is, the easier it is to understand. 果物は新鮮なら新鮮なだけおいしいです。 Kudamono wa shinsen nara shinsenna dake oishii desu. The fresher the fruit, the more delicious. 品物は安ければ安いほどよくうれる。 Shinamono wa yasukereba yasui hodo yoku ureru. The cheaper the articles are, the better they sell.
