Japanese Language 「Adjectives and Adverbs」 「Adj conj/Adj te + mo~ mo nai ~く/でも~く/でもない」 ”Neither~ nor~” The phrase ~mo~ mo nai when attached to the conjunctive ku form of an i-adjective, or to the te form of a na-adjective, will express a state that is neither positive or negative. Examples: 彼女は美しくもみにくくもない。 Kanojo wa utsukushiku mo minikuku mo nai. She is neither beautiful nor ugly. 彼の一生は幸せでも不幸せでもなかった。 Kare no isshō wa shiawase de mo fushiawase de mo nakatta. His life was neither happy nor unhappy. この建物はモダンでも立派でもない。 Kono tatemono wa modan de mo rippa de mo nai. This building is neither modern nor magnificent.
