Japanese Language 「Adjectives and Adverbs」 「V(-masu) + nikuiにくい」 "Hard to~" The auxiliary i-adjective nikui attaches to the stem of the masu form of a verb. Indicating that someone or something (usually the topic of the sentence) is hard to~. Examples: この漢字は覚えにくい。 Kono kanji wa oboe nikui This kanji is hard to memorize. 木田先生は話しにくかったです。 Kida-sensei wa hanashi nikukatta desu. Professor Kita wa hard to talk to. はしで食べにくい料理は嫌いです。 Hashi de tabe nikui ryōri wa kirai desu. I dislike food that is hard to eat with chopsticks.
