It is primarily used in formal conversation and in writing. Examples: 卒業式は先ほど終了しました。 Sotsugyōshiki wa saki hodo shūryō shimashita. The graduation ceremony ended just a little while ago. 本田先生は先ほどまでオフィスにいらっしゃいました。 Honda-sensei wa saki hodo made ofisu ni irasshaimashita. Professor Honda was in his office until a little while ago.
