Japanese Language 「Sentence Structure」 In Japanese; a compound verb meaning "finish doing" can be formed using the verb owaru ("finish"). Owaru is attached, as an auxiliary, to a verb in its stem form which indicates that someone or something has finished doing something. Examples: 主人は朝ご飯を食べ終わりました。 Shujin wa asagohan o tabeowarimashita. My husband finished eating his breakfast. 警察はその事件を調べ終わった。 Keisatsu wa sono jiken o shirabeowatta. The police finished investigating the case. この歴史の本を読み終わったところです。 Kono rekishi no hon o yomiowatta tokoro desu. I have just finished reading this history book.
