Kirei da/Kirei datta
In Japanese, the affirmative [aff] adjective when used as a predicate provides information about a noun, which can be either the topic or subject of the sentence. If the noun is the topic, it is identified with the particle wa, and ga is used when the noun is the subject. Usually the topic, and subject, are one and the same.
Hoteru no resutoran wa takai/takai desu.
The restaurant in hotels are expensive.
Umi no iro ga kirei datta/kirei deshita.
The color of the ocean was pretty.
