Japanese verbs can express Plain and Polite styles of speech. Plain speech is used among friends, family, and people you are familiar with. Also it is used in magazines and newspapers, polite speech is used among adults who are not friends, or also used among superiors at work and other such situations. Plain Speech(Present tense): Kare wa Kyōto e iku.[彼は京都へ行く] Polite Speech(Present tense): Kare wa Kyōto e ikimasu.[彼 わ 京都 絵 行きます.] Plain Speech(Past tense):Kare wa Kyōto e itta.[彼 わ 京都 絵 行った] Polite Speech(Past tense):Kare wa Kyōto e ikimashita.[彼 わ 京都 絵行きました]
